At the beginning of the week, I went to the La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve, where Aboriginal communities have set up checkpoints in preparation for a five-year moratorium on non-aboriginal moose hunting.
Despite the fact that data from the Ministry of Wildlife shows a significant decrease in the moose population on the reserve, the provincial government continues to issue sport hunting permits on Aboriginal lands without the consent of the communities.
In this video, I speak with the Band Councillor of Mitchikanibikok (Barriere Lake) and Shannon Chief, a community member.
The Green Party of Quebec fully supports the Anishinabe communities in their struggle to protect the moose population, their traditional way of life and their sovereignty.
