Congratulations to Annamie Paul!

After a long and trying leadership race, the members of the Green Party of Canada have spoken out; Annamie Paul will be the leader who will lead the Greens in the next federal election!
The election of Annamie Paul is a historic moment for Canada. She is both the first black person and the first Jewish woman to lead a federal political party in Canada. For this, she has my deepest admiration. In her campaign, she campaigned to make the Green Party of Canada a more diverse, democratic and bold party. I am confident that she will accomplish her goals. I look forward to working with her as the leader of the Green Party of Quebec.
As far as Quebec is concerned, Annamie is fluent in French. I believe this will give her a considerable advantage over Elizabeth May in Quebec and French-speaking Canada. She is a strong proponent of an inclusive identity policy and will be a strong voice against racism, discrimination and the politics of hate. All these factors tell me that Annamie can win in Quebec if we work together and put an end to internal quarrels while joining forces.
Although many members voted for other candidates, Annamie has made it clear that she intends to unite the party. This includes reaching out to left-wing candidates, eco-socialists and members who are a little more radical. She has made it clear that she wants to make the federal party more democratic and I am confident that the membership will move the party to the left at the next political convention.

In conclusion, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to lead a political party and unite it after a highly contested leadership race. It requires patience, understanding and strong principles. I am confident that Annamie Paul will succeed in this mission. I wish her well and look forward to meeting her at the earliest opportunity.
Regardless of who we voted for, I call on all members of the Green Party to support Annamie Paul, to continue our fight for the environment, social justice and equality. Together, there is no limit to what we can achieve. Let’s work together!

In solidarity,

Alex Tyrrell
Leader of the Green Party of Quebec
